The directory of architects, designers and house owners in the book indicates the rich mix of ethnicities in Malaysia with Malay, Chinese (Hakka, Teochew, Fuzhou, Hokkien and Cantonese), and Indian/ Sri Lankan, mixed with people of Dyak/Iban. Bidayuh, and Melanau origin, augmented by others of Singaporean, Indonesian, French, Swedish, British, Australian and German origin. Their different cultures are all evident in the evolving form of the Tropical Malaysian House. This book documents 26 houses in Malaysia designed for the tropical climate.
