The Crescent Islands project was a 2007 entry for a competition to design a masterplan for six man-made islands projecting into in the Arabian Sea near the Western border of Dubai with Abu Dhabi. The islands have a land area of …ha and a projected population of …,…The LDY masterplan is driven by an ecological agenda that seeks to ‘connect’ the islands with the existing marine ecology and Xeriscape desert landscape. Buildings will employ passive cooling and reinterpret in contemporary forms traditional architectural and urban patterns. Renewable sources of energy in the form of wind turbines, photo voltaic installations and solar technology will be employed.
